Yondr energises first Canadian data centre in Toronto
Yondr has energised its 27MW data centre in Toronto, its first site in Canada.
The facility, on a 4.5-acre site, is expected to be ready for service in mid-2026. The project expands Yondr's North American footprint as demand for data centre capacity rises.
The Toronto campus has been designed with a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water use. It was also developed in line with the Toronto Green Standard, which sets environmental performance requirements for new developments.
Other features include electric vehicle charging, bicycle parking, bird-friendly glazing to help reduce bird strikes, and landscaping with native and pollinator plant species. The project also supports Yondr's 2030 net zero target for scope 1 and 2 emissions.
Canada Entry
The energisation marks Yondr's formal entry into the Canadian market. Toronto has emerged as a key location for digital infrastructure investment, with operators and developers seeking new sites to support cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and broader enterprise demand.
Yondr develops, owns, and operates large-scale data centres for major customers. The Toronto project adds to its expansion across North America and Europe, at a time when operators are under pressure to secure land, grid connections, and construction capacity in major metropolitan markets.
Power access and build speed have become central issues for the sector as demand from artificial intelligence applications increases. In several markets, developers are racing to bring new facilities online while also responding to environmental requirements and community scrutiny over energy and water use.
John Madden, Chief Data Centre Officer at Yondr, said: "We're proud to mark the energisation of our Toronto data center campus, a major milestone that moves us another step closer to delivering critical digital infrastructure for the region. Demand for capacity is accelerating at a pace we've never experienced before, driven by AI scale and a shift toward compute-led economies. Our Toronto campus forms a key part of Yondr's strategy to deliver the next generation of sustainable, high-performance data center capacity across North America and beyond."
Local Measures
Alongside the build, Yondr has launched a scholarship programme with the University of Toronto. The scheme supports undergraduate students in Computer Science, Rotman Commerce, Life Sciences, and Mathematical & Physical Sciences.
Successful applicants can receive an admission award of up to $5,000. Two students have received the award so far.
Yondr has also backed local programmes including pre-apprenticeship work placements, apprentice site tours, donations to youth sports teams, and a tree-planting initiative. These activities form part of its broader community engagement efforts around the Toronto site.
Todd Sauer, VP Design & Construction Americas at Yondr, said: "This campus has been designed with future demand and long-term environmental responsibility in mind, integrating cooling efficiency, resilience, and local sustainability standards from the outset. Combined with our delivery model and rapid campus deployment approach, we're unlocking speed, scale and certainty for customers as they plan the digital infrastructure of tomorrow.
"We're committed to building not just capacity, but lasting value. From delivering hyperscale-ready infrastructure to working with academic partners like the University of Toronto to invest in future talent pipelines, this project represents a significant commitment to the region and its long-term digital growth."
